Are horses colour-blind?

Horses are not colour-blind, but they see a more limited range of colours than humans.

They have two types of colour receptors, allowing them to distinguish blue and yellow, together with shades of grey. Colours such as red and green are much more difficult for them to tell apart.

A horse’s eyesight is nevertheless remarkably well suited to its natural needs. Its eyes are positioned on either side of its head, providing an exceptionally wide field of vision and helping it remain aware of movement and possible danger around it.
