Ian Wood explains
How do you become a jockey?
Becoming a professional jockey requires riding ability, physical fitness, dedication and experience working with horses. Many aspiring jockeys begin at riding schools or racing stables before undertaking specialist training at the British Racing School in Newmarket or the Northern Racing College in Doncaster.
They must then meet the British Horseracing Authority’s licensing requirements, including medical, fitness and practical assessments.
