Ian Wood explains

How much does a jockey earn per ride?

Jockeys receive a riding fee for each mount, whether their horse wins, loses or finishes unplaced. The figures quoted in DoubleHandful are approximately £173.54 for a Flat jockey and £235.90 for a Jump jockey. These are the amounts quoted in the book, rather than necessarily today’s rates.

They may also receive a percentage of prize money for winning or placed rides, while some leading jockeys receive retainers. These fees are reviewed periodically and are subject to deductions.
