What is a ‘gaff track’?

A ‘gaff track’ is an informal racing expression, mainly used in Britain and Ireland, describing a smaller, less prestigious or more locally orientated racecourse.

The expression is not necessarily derogatory. It is sometimes used affectionately to describe racecourses that retain their traditional character and offer a more intimate racing experience.
